Hey there! I’m Kelsey. Why should you trust me to edit your writing?

One of my greatest passions in life is editing. I know that might sound strange, but you can trust me when I say that I love to edit. I received a bachelor's degree in journalism, as well as a creative writing minor. I was also a copy editor for the newspaper and a college writing tutor.

I didn't realize it then, but my classes and assignments solidified my editing skills. I was required to author a semester-long project for a class that required PERFECTION. I'm talking serious points lost for grammatical and formatting mistakes. I found I was particularly good at proofreading long documents and finding even the smallest error. I scoured pages for myself in the wee hours of the night, but also for my classmates to make sure their hard work wasn't lost to a comma splice.

I loved being a writing tutor in college, helping students work through their initial frustration and write a well-rounded argument. I loved getting out my red pen and crossing out fluffy words and sometimes entire paragraphs. I liked to quiz them on why I changed something to help them understand and learn. I especially loved getting them to see themselves as writers.

These days I would rather edit than write. I find a thrill in what most people think is mundane. I’m deeply satisfied by the task of unraveling a piece and puzzling it out until it’s just right. I have an eagle's eye for grammar and an innate sense of what makes words and ideas flow. I find chances to edit things every day.

I am a thoughtful and socially aware editor who understands the nuances of being different. My work affirms and embraces things like chronic illness, complex trauma, queerness, intersectionality, and more. I understand the kinds of barriers created by systems of power and oppression. I use this perspective to inform all aspects of my editing.

So, with all of that said, it is my absolute pleasure to edit your work and help you feel good about what you write. I aim to be approachable and explanatory, while also gaining traction in the professional world of editing.
